Kirk Ian Mortensen, 77, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 while asleep at a family cabin in British Columbia. Born in Seattle on January 20, 1942, he was the son of Hubert Bach Mortensen and Agnes Kirkness Mortensen. In 1958, the family moved to Bainbridge Island. There he completed high school and went on to the University of Washington as well as the University of Oregon where he received a law degree. In 1966, he married fellow islander, Lynn Ove, and after law school the couple returned to Bainbridge and raised three children: Hugh, Matthew and Sarah. Kirk’s many interests included Airedale terriers, dancing, traveling and boating the BC coast. Fishing and UW football were also cherished pastimes. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. A memorial service is planned for July 7 at 5:00pm at Kiana Lodge: 14976 Ne Sandy Hook Road, Poulsbo, WA 98370
