Island living almost seems to necessitate that youngsters learn some manner of water-based activity. For the participants of the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District’s sailing camps, learning to harness the wind is the order of the day.

Students in the camp learn everything from how to tie knots, to capsize recovery. Students in the camp learn the ropes (no pun intended) at the helm of the small, double-handed dinghies known as Flying Juniors.

One particularly sunny morning, the students took to the waters of Port Madison by way of Hidden Cove in order to hone their skills as the salty sea dogs of tomorrow. Here are Review reporter Nick Twietmeyer’s favorite photos from the day.
