Bainbridge firefighters knocked down a late evening blaze that was threatening an anchor downtown development in Winslow Thursday.

Photos posted on social media showed large flames stretching skyward from an upper floor of the complex of storefronts at Winslow Green in Bainbridge’s downtown.

Firefighters were called to the scene — dispatched as a two-alarm commercial fire — just before 8 p.m.

Multiple fire engines, aid cars and other units responded to Bainbridge from off-island.

Details of the fire were initially sparse.

Flames were no longer visible from the structure from Winslow Way just after 8:30 p.m.

At least six fire engines and three medic units — as well as multiple police cars — were at the scene just before 9 p.m.

Responding agencies included the Bainbridge Island Fire Department, Bainbridge police, Poulsbo Fire Department and Navy Region Northwest.
