Best Bets April 6-8 | The Bainbridge Blab

Welcome to springtime in earnest, Bainbridge.

That is to say, don’t forget your umbrella. It’s going to be soggy.

However, if you don’t mind a little water (and how can you, if you live here?) you might consider starting your weekend off right: It’s once again the First Friday Art Walk in downtown Winslow from 6 to 8 p.m.

Take a jaunt through the galleries and take a gander at some of Bainbridge’s finest artistic offerings. Refreshments are served at most venues and a number of local restaurants join the monthly event, offering small plates and weekend specials.

Visit www.bainbridgedowntown.org/events/first-friday-art-walk.1009.html to learn more.

The monthly Vinyl Lounge live record playing party, hosted by Space Craft, will likewise return to the Alehouse on Winslow, from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, April 6.

This month’s musical theme: “Rebel Rebel / Pioneers, Mavericks and Trailblazers.” Bring your own vinyl to spin, or just come to listen. The night promises to deliver a smile — if not a few moves on the dance floor.

Admission is free.

Visit www.spacecraftpresents.org to learn more.

Poetry is point on Saturday.

Poets Dawn Henthorn, Marit Saltrones and Gary Anderson will read their work starting as the Poulsbohemian Armchair Poetry Series continues next week.

The series returns to the Poulsbohemian Coffeehouse (19005 Front St. NE, Poulsbo) at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 7.

A brief open mic will follow the featured readers. Admission is free, and there will be hot and cold drinks, pastries and tasty snacks for sale.

For more information, call Nancy Rekow at 206-842-4855.

Consider slowing things down a bit Sunday.

Bainbridge author Carol Cassella and Seattle author Jennifer Haupt will gather to chat about Haupt’s new book, “In the Shadow of 10,000 Hills,” a riveting saga that spans from Civil Rights era Atlanta to post-genocide Rwanda, next week at Eagle Harbor Book Company.

Haupt will visit the Winslow bookstore at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 8.

Visit www.eagleharborbooks.com to learn more.

Also, Ranger and the Re-Arrangers — joined by special guest Chris Luquette — will perform at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 8.

The show is free to attend, with donations accepted at the door.

The concert will feature music from Ranger and the Re-Arrangers’ repertoire of swing standards and traditional Gypsy melodies.

Reservations are recommended. Email info@RangerSwings.com to save a spot.

The Men’s Compline Choir of Bainbridge Island will sing the Office of Compline at 8 p.m. Sunday, April 8 at Saint Cecilia Parish.

Compline, also called Night Prayer, is the last of the traditional daily services sung by monastic communities and dates back to at least the 8th century. The service consists of chants, readings, psalms, prayers, petitions and hymns, sung in a contemplative setting in a darkened church.

The program is approximately 30 minutes in length.

All are welcome.
