Bainbridge police host prescription drug take back event

Old, unused or expired prescription drugs filling your medicine cabinet?

The Bainbridge Island Police Department has an answer: Officers are hosting a “Prescription Drug Take Back” event next week.

The drop-off collection effort is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Bainbridge police station, located at 625 Winslow Way East.

Police ask residents to please don’t bring “sharps,” such as needles, to the event, which is specifically for collecting unwanted medications only.

Controlled and non-controlled prescription substances (including over-the-counter substances) will be accepted. Residents can deposit loose pills directly into the disposal box or submit the entire container.

For those who want to discard the entire pill container, police note that people should remove personal information from the prescription label by either removing it or obscuring it with a permanent marker.

Intravenous solutions, injectables, syringes, or medical waste will not be accepted.

All participants must retain possession of their own medication during the surrender process. Law enforcement personnel may not handle the medications at any time.

Bainbridge police are hosting this event in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
