The Bainbridge Island man arrested on multiple charges last week now faces another for trafficking stolen property he allegedly took from an island home.

Austin Tyler Olmsted, 26, was arrested on Tuesday, May 14 for multiple charges including felony theft, malicious mischief, providing false or misleading statements to a public servant, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to appear/contempt of court.

At the time of his arrest, Olmsted was also a suspect in an island case that led to his friend being charged with trafficking stolen property. Olmsted’s friend, Favian Sabado, 26, of Poulsbo was arrested for allegedly pawning a chainsaw that was reported as stolen on Bainbridge Island.

Sabado told officers that he pawned the chainsaw for his friend, Olmsted, according to a police report. Sabado allegedly said the situation was suspicious but pawned the power tool anyway because Olmsted assured him the chainsaw was his family’s.

Now Olmsted is facing a charge for the chainsaw theft.

Olmsted allegedly admitted to an island detective that he stole the chainsaw.

Olmsted was hired on April 24 by an island homeowner to perform yard work using the chainsaw, though, he allegedly never returned the tool. The chainsaw, a Stihl brand tool valued at $369, was later reported as stolen to island police.

That same day Olmsted allegedly asked his friend, Sabado, to drive him from the island to a Poulsbo pawn shop to sell the chainsaw. Olmsted, however, did not have the proper ID to sell the item to the pawn shop and Sabado sold the chainsaw for him.

Sabado sold the chainsaw to the pawn shop for $70. Olmsted allegedly then pocketed the money.

Olmsted told officers that he stole and sold the chainsaw for money to support his heroin habit.
