The Bainbridge Island City Council will consider clarifying the roles and duties of several city advisory committees during this week’s session.

Similar to recent changes to the city’s Utility Advisory Committee, citizens who serve on the committees will soon have city-issued email accounts and their meetings must follow the rules of the Open Public Meetings Act.

The city council will review revised ordinances for the Bainbridge Island Harbor Commission, Planning Commission, Design Review Board and Non-Motorized Transportation Advisory Committee.

Under the new revisions, each group will hold meetings once a month open to the public. Public notice will be provided for every session and minutes will be taken and posted on the city’s website.

Commission members will also receive city email accounts and training on the Open Public Records Act.

Members will be advised on the implications for privacy while using the city-issued email accounts as well as personal computers while serving on a Bainbridge citizen advisory committee.

The city council will take up the ordinances for each committee during the “consent agenda” portion of the session.

The council meets at 7 p.m. Monday, May 12 in city hall.
