5:18 p.m. A 41-year-old man from Texas called Bainbridge police and said he was a victim of an IRS scam.

He said he had been contacted by someone with a foreign accent who claimed to be from the legal department of the IRS. The caller convinced the man to send $1,800 via Western Union. The man said he stayed on the phone for two hours until the money order was sent, then another individual got on the call and told him he needed to send another $7,000.

At that point, the man hung up and called his accountant, who told him the whole thing was a scam.

The man then did a reverse search for the phone number on the Internet, and the search results found the call was placed near the intersection of Winslow Way and Madison Avenue.

Police determined the call was made via Voice over IP (Internet provider), and could have originated from anywhere in the world.

The man was advised to call the IRS.
