Dayaalu Center hosts sunny show

Dayaalu Center will display a series of paintings by Bainbridge artist Fatima Young, “The Sun is Up,” through April.

A special reception will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 14 to celebrate the show.

This show was last on exhibited on Bainbridge at the Bloedel Reserve late last year.

“The Dayaalu Center is the perfect setting for my art because of the compassion shown by it’s teaching and healing staff,” Young said. “You can feel it the minute you open the door.”

Dayaalu Center is known for building strong, loving and meaningful lives by offering yoga, meditation qigong, dance, pilates, music, nutrition and much more.

In the tradition of certain Impressionists, Young paints with the palette knife. She adds bold color and captures the earth’s rich moods through the use of light and dark. The canvas becomes an interpretation of her internal vision.

After a dark period of losing her husband, Young explained, there was reawakening. Getting up again showed her that the light can come back, and that is reflected in her new body of work. Young spent time here on Bainbridge healing, and therefore said she wants to share her work with the people of her town.

Young was born in Europe and is of Russian heritage, and the Russian Impressionists captured her interest early on. She received a bachelor of fine arts degree from C.W. Post University in New York, and after a 25 year hiatus — raising her son and making a career in the magazine publishing field — Fatima returned to her love of oil painting on Bainbridge Island.

Dayaalu Center is at 159 Wyatt Way NE.
