BSO to host auditions for 2017-18 season lineup

The Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra will hold auditions for the 2017-18 season at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27 at Bainbridge Performing Arts.

BSO has current openings for flute/piccolo, oboe/English horn, trumpet, violin, viola and bass. Players of all other instruments are encouraged to audition for the substitute musician list (especially horn and trombone).

Interested parties are encouraged to contact BSO general manager Larry Telles at symphony@bainbridgeperformingarts.org to secure an audition appointment.

Musicians are requested to arrive 15 minutes ahead of their arranged audition appointment and look for signs to the warm-up and audition rooms.

Those auditioning should prepare two contrasting works of their choice that display the depth of their musical sensitivity and range of technical ability. Come prepared to play a total of five to eight minutes of music. Sight reading for all instruments will be requested; music will be provided on site. Those interested in auditioning for principal positions will be asked to prepare excerpts.

BSO rehearses on Wednesday evenings, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at BPA.

The orchestra kicks off its season in November with “Mozart and Sibelius,” a program featuring Missy Mazzoli’s River Rouge Transfiguration as well as pianist Oksana Ejokina in a performance of Mozart’s brilliant “Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor,” and works from the sonic world of Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius.
