Fun!

It’s the weekend, Bainbridge, and highlighting the next freedom-filled 24 hours is full of two stunning returns.

But first, some tunes.

Island live music faves Ranger and the Re-Arrangers, with special guest Matt Sircely, will perform a special free outdoor concert at Winslow Green at 6 p.m. Friday.

Sircely is the tremendous mandolinist of Hot Club Sandwich! He grew up in Pennsylvania and moved west to Port Townsend in 1999 with a guitar, a fiddle and a couple of mandolins. He and his band incorporate folkloric influences from around the world and play Gypsy jazz with reverence, but also light-hearted humor.

The Winslow concert will feature music from Ranger and the Re-Arrangers repertoire of swing standards and traditional Gypsy melodies.

Donations will be accepted.

Then, the Taste of Lynwood, the beloved block party and quasi-annual neighborhood celebration of the island’s “other” downtown, comes back to Lynwood Center from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Hosted by the owners, merchants, friends and neighbors of the Lynwood Center neighborhood, the event features live music, tasty eats and, of course, the Baker Hill Challenge, the fundraising fun run which begins the day’s festivities.

For a complete list of musical acts, vendors and activities, check out Friday’s Review, or visit www.tasteoflynwood.org.

Also on Saturday, another rousing return: The always anticipated annual zucchini races will return to the Bainbridge Island Farmers Market.

Open to public, business and group entries, this farm-to-finish line battle sees contestants modify and customize zucchinis of all sizes and launch them down a small race track in search of glory.

“Vehicle” check-in begins at 11 a.m. The races will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m.

The Bainbridge Island Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, and is held in Town Square, outside city hall.

Hosting duties will again be performed by the infamous “Dr. Vvrroooom.”

Finally, Port Madison Lutheran Church will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the installation of their custom pipe organ by Northwest organ builder Steven Cook with a special free concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday by returning musician Philip Manwell, of the University of Nevada.

Manwell will perform Bach’s “Orgelbuchlein.” The event will also include a pipe-making demonstration by Cook.

There will be a reception following the concert.

Donations for the artists will be accepted.

Port Madison Lutheran Church is at 14000 North Madison Ave. NE. For more information, call 206-842-4746 or visit www.portmadisonlutheranchurch.org.
