Best Bets for March 3-5 | The Bainbridge Blab

A wise man once said, “Everybody’s working for the weekend.”

Well, stop. It’s here at last and you earned a break.

It’s a new month, nearly the start of a new season, and there are plenty of new things to do right here on the rock.

It’s First Friday! Tonight, treat yourself to a jaunt through downtown Winslow for the First Friday Art Walk. Swing by the local galleries and shops to see what new and interesting works of art are up — and what wines are being poured.

Or, if auditory art is what you crave, head over to Rolling Bay Hall for a very special concert event presented by Space Craft: Dance Night will kick off at 6 p.m. It’s going to be an evening of alternative new wave dance and masquerade. All proceeds from the evening will go to support the Space Craft Artist Grant Fund. Attendees are encouraged to dress up and bring their inner Bowie — expressing their best ’80s verve! The dance will be produced by Greg Morgan, Kristin Robinson of Astronauts & Poets with music by Greg Morgan and guest Gary Bedell.

Tickets, $10 each, are available here.

Get in the swing of things Saturday as the Bainbridge Island Rope Skippers host a free tournament from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Woodward Middle School. Teams will be participating from British Columbia and across Washington and Oregon, with about 190 jumpers set to get in on the action. Girls and boys, ages 8-16, will compete in multiple events, including speed and individual and group freestyle, and also a number of other choreographed performances, as well.

The Men’s Compline Choir of Bainbridge Island will perform at 8 p.m. Sunday at Saint Cecilia Parish.

Compline, also called Night Prayer, is the last of the traditional daily services sung by monastic communities and dates back to at least the eighth century. The service consists of chant, readings, psalms, prayers, petitions and hymns sung in a contemplative setting in a darkened church.

The concert is about 30 minutes long. All are welcome to attend.
