The renowned Texas songwriter is touring his new album, “The Ruffian’s Misfortune.”

The release showcases Hubbard’s bluesy slide alongside the twin guitar leads of Gabe Rhodes and Hubbard’s son Lucas.

His autobiography, “A Life … Well, Lived,” also recently hit the bookstores, bursting with colorful anecdotes of his career. Now with 16 albums under his belt, Hubbard has taken a wild ride exploring his sound through the decades. He’s journeyed from his humble beginnings as an Oklahoma folkie in the ’60s to really finding his groove at the turn of the century: the blues.

He’d always admired the form but steered clear of it, thinking it beyond his grasp until learning how to finger pick. Then the language of the blues became his new addiction.

Hubbard was pushed back into the spotlight with “The Grifter’s Hymnal” and his appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman in 2012. His new record picks up right where he left off.

“This record is pretty much where I am as far as trying to make records that work on a couple of different levels,” Hubbard said, “by laying down a groove with cool guitar tones and vicious nasty licks with lyrics that have a little depth and weight and even a little humor thrown in, too, as life is pretty much like that.”
