Ribbon-cutting officially opens downtown rowing center

Bainbridge Mayor Val Tollefson and Bainbridge Island Rowing president Jennifer Ames-Karreman, with the help of many high school and adult rowers, cut the ribbon to celebrate completion of the first stage of construction for the new Rowing Center in Waterfront Park on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Construction began on the center a year ahead of schedule to coordinate with the city’s improvements to the park, officials said. Bainbridge Island Rowing will operate out of the foundation platform until the next stage of construction begins, which is set to include a second floor with a community space, workout room, office and locker rooms.

The final stage of construction will begin when sufficient funds have been raised.
