NK golfers split with BHS, Kingston

The North Kitsap boys and girls golf teams split their first two matches against Bainbridge and Kingston.

The Vikings traveled to Wing Point Country Club March 12 to face the Spartans.

Bainbridge defeated North Kitsap 167-198. Spartans Dane Byers shot one over par with a 37 over 9 holes, Rainier Richardson shot a 42, Andrew Grinter a 43, Anderson Wicklund a 45, Andrew Jobes a 46 and Tyson Brase finished with a 50.

Despite falling short, NK’s boys coach was impressed with his squad shooting its lowest score at Wing Point in the last few years.

Nico Smith-Cuprill and Cole Edwards each shot a 47, Kaden Pickard shot a 50, Evan Anderson a 54, Ryan Hendricks a 55 and Nick Watson a 57.

On the girls side, Spartan Grace Charintranont scored 43 strokes through nine holes. The three other Spartan golfers finished with a team total of 219. The top four Viking girls had 233 strokes, 374 including the fifth and sixth golfer.

Calia Corden led with 50 strokes, Olivia Desmond had a 58, Abbey Smart a 59, Leila Hansen a 66, Peyton Belford a 70 and Amelia Hadfield a 71.

On March 14, Kingston traveled to Port Ludlow Golf Course to face the Vikings. The Viking boys defeated the Bucs 188-210.

Pickard was the medalist with a 43, Anderson and Smith-Cuprill each scored 48, Watson scored a 49 and Hendricks and Edwards each shot 51.

Kingston’s Viet Tran shot a 45, Lane Curtis a 47, Riley Leibold a 56, Josh VanHuis a 62, Zachary Whitbeck a 70 and Kinoa Pagaloa a 72.

Kingston did not field a girls team. However, NK’s girls still competed to help boost their seeding for the Olympic League tournament at the end of the regular season.

Corden finished with a 51, Smart shot a 59, Desmond a 61, Belford a 68, Hansen a 69 and Hadfield a 72.
