Woman, 79, goes after Kitsap deputies with edger with metal blade

Kitsap County Superior Court cases

A 79-year-old woman who just missed injuring two Kitsap County deputies with a lawn edger with a metal blade was in Superior Court Aug. 4 facing three charges.

The woman from Yakima faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for assault with a deadly weapon, five years and a $10,000 fine for assaulting an officer and a year in jail and a $5,000 fine for criminal trespass.

Court documents say Kitsap deputies arrested the woman Aug. 2 at 8:02 p.m. in the 6500 block of Highway 303 in NE Bremerton.

The suspect had lived in the home most of her life, but her family had her evicted. When a deputy arrived, she yelled at him to leave and threatened a lawsuit. She barricaded the door and windows. She grabbed a lawn edger with a metal blade and attempted to strike a deputy standing at a window.

She used that same weapon as a different deputy tried to enter through a door, missing him by inches and striking the door frame. The first deputy used pepper spray on her, and she dropped the edger and retreated to a bedroom. She was arrested and held on no bail.

No one was found, but three suspects were identified in photos from cameras. One has a prosthetic left arm.

Deputies found out a Port Orchard police officer was in a parking lot with people matching the description of two of the suspects. They were wearing the same clothes, and one had a bleeding cut and Adidas flip flops. His vehicle was also left at the scene as he fled when deputies arrived.

A mother was concerned about a large bruise on the thigh of her 5-year-old son after returning from his dad’s home. A daughter saw the boy get hit six times with a slipper with a hard sole.
