More snow expected in Kitsap County

4 weather shelters open through Dec. 4

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 10 a.m. Dec. 3, the city of Bainbridge Island reports.

Up to 8 inches of snow is expected in parts of Kitsap, Mason and Jefferson counties. From 1-3 inches of snow are expected elsewhere.

“Travel could be very difficult,” the city email says.

It adds, “If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.”

Meanwhile, as a result of expected freezing temperatures, four Severe Weather Shelters in Kitsap County will be open through Dec. 4. They are open from 6 p.m. until 7 the next morning.

Locations are: United Methodist Church, 725 Kitsap St., Port Orchard; Gateway Fellowship, 18901 8th Ave. NE, Poulsbo; and United Methodist Church, 9982 Silverdale Way, Silverdale.

One also is open in Kingston at the Village Green Community Center, 26159 Dulay Road NE, but the hours are 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

No one can check in after 9 p.m. If no one has checked in by then, the location will close for the evening.

Call 360-373-3000 before 7 p.m. if you need a ride to one of the shelters. The shelters are open to anyone who requires safe overnight refuge when hazardous weather conditions are expected. Call 211 for more.

Also, overnight sheltering is available at the Salvation Army in Bremerton, 832 6th St., with check-in from 7-8:45 p.m. Call 360-649-6628 for more.
