A weekend welfare check led to the discovery of two dead women in a potential murder-suicide at a Port Orchard residence Nov. 19.

Deputies were called to the 5000 block of SE Safe Haven Way at 3:30 p.m. to investigate a call made from a neighbor. The caller said that she had not seen her neighbors for over a month.

Two deputies gained entry into the house and a bedroom and found the bodies of two women lying across a bed. A pistol found in one woman’s hand, and a statement from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office describes the bodies as “in advanced states of decomposition.”

Causes of death are expected to be determined by the county medical examiner’s office.
