Alcohol and high speed are believed to be factors in the death of a 47-year-old Bainbridge man killed in a one-car accident east of Winslow early Sunday.
The victim was identified as Larry E. McMullen.
The accident was reported at 3:01 a.m. Sunday on Grand Avenue near Yeomalt Point Drive. The driver was behind the wheel of a 1988 Porsche 928, and failed to negotiate a curve from Park Avenue onto Grand, just north of Yeomalt Point. The vehicle left the roadway, went down an embankment struck two large trees.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene from multiple injuries.
Just before the accident, two neighbors heard a vehicle traveling at “an extremely high rate of speed” on the roadway, police said. Alcohol was also believed to be a factor in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
