EOC open house

The community is invited June 18 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. to an open house for the city’s new Emergency Operations Center, located on the second floor of the Ted Spearman Justice Center (8804 Madison Ave N).

At the open house, community members will learn how the city prepares residents, businesses, churches, and municipal agencies for emergencies—and the role the EOC plays in response and recovery, per a news release.

Light refreshments and drinks will be served.

RSVP at apps.bainbridgewa.gov/Forms/EOC_RSVP if you plan to attend.

Brazillian concert

A free outdoor concert will occur June 22 at 4 p.m. at Waterfront Park, presented by First Sundays Concerts.

The performance will feature the Marina Albero Quintet with vocalist Adriana Giordano. Marina’s latest album, “A Nomad of Sound,” was recently named “Record of the Year” by Earshot Jazz, and the concert will be an opportunity to hear her full band perform it live, along with new Brazilian-inspired pieces.

Correction

A caption in last week’s paper incorrectly stated a city employee was using a gas-powered leaf blower when it was actually an electric leaf blower.

Garbage compactor

The current garbage compactor at the Olympic View Transfer Station in Bremerton is over 10 years old and is nearing its end-of-life, which causes frequent outages and facility closures, a Kitsap County news release states.

Kitsap County’s contractor is currently preparing to install a second garbage compactor at the facility, which will increase garbage processing time and provide backup during compactor maintenance, and is expected to come online this fall.

After the second compactor is installed, the county will replace the current compactor. The county has already purchased the machine, which costs around $5 million and takes eight months to manufacture.
