Young People’s March

The 7th annual Young People’s March for Peace and Kindness will be Jan. 19, providing an opportunity to come together as a community in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

“The march began as a way to empower even the youngest children to joyfully participate in a day of service by advocating for peace and kindness,” said Anne Willhoit, Bainbridge Island School District teacher and event organizer. “Many families have shared that the event provides an opportunity to have thoughtful conversations about what the day represents.”

Children of all ages, their families, and community members are invited to participate in letter writing from 10:30 – 11:15 a.m. at the Bainbridge Island Library, 1270 Madison Avenue. At 11:15 a.m., the group will march about a mile to the post office to mail the letters. Participants are encouraged to bring signs, banners, friends and stamps. Addresses and inspiration provided.

This event is put on by BISD, Kitsap Regional Library, Charter Real Estate and the BISD Multicultural Advisory Council.

If all goes as planned, the city anticipates bringing the new tank online by February.

Demolition of the existing 1-million-gallon tank is expected to be completed by the end of February, marking the final major phase of the infrastructure upgrade.
