The community is invited to join city officials in a walk/bike ride from the Bainbridge Island Police Station to High School Road as they study the possibilities of a new connection for the Sound to Olympics Trail.

The new regional trail will eventually stretch across Kitsap County.

The trail connection on Bainbridge will run adjacent to Highway 305 and link the Mountains to Sound Greenway — a scenic byway from Seattle to the crest of the Cascades — to the Olympic Discovery Trail.

Officials said the new piece will also make the commute off the ferry safer and easier for those traveling by bike, foot, stroller or wheelchair.

Residents can meet at the police station at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19 and walk or bike up to High School Road.

Participants will learn about the different options for constructing the trail connection and see where the path leads.

Including the walk, the event is expected to last about an hour. Walkers and bicyclists of all ages and abilities are welcome.

Participants are not required to RSVP, but encouraged.

In addition to Sunday’s walk/bike ride, the city will also be hosting a public meeting in the council chambers Wednesday, Oct. 29.
