Bail $1 million for man charged in drive-by shooting

Kitsap County Superior Court cases

Bail was set at $1 million in Kitsap County Superior Court Feb. 7 for a 22-year-old Bremerton man charged with drive-by shooting.

He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for that charge, along with the same penalty for possession of a firearm due to a previous conviction.

Court papers say that Kitsap deputies responded Dec. 4, 2024, at 1:38 a.m. to the 4100 block of W. J. St. in Bremerton. Three gunshots were heard, along with a man screaming “get out” and a vehicle speeding away. Soon after a gunshot victim was taken to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale. The victim was shot in the right foot, and there was shrapnel in his left shin.

The victim and a friend were walking when a vehicle passed several times. Video surveillance from a nearby business verified the story. The victim wasn’t sure who did it but had been threatened by someone several months before over “issues” going back several years. Two .380 shell casings were found at the scene.

Two days later the suspect was arrested in Spokane. Then Jan. 22 of this year a woman confessed to being the driver in the drive-by shooting. She said she feared for her life and the lives of her children if she spoke to officers.

She said she and the suspect were arguing in East Bremerton when he told her to take him to his “baby momma’s” house in Port Orchard. On the way, the suspect saw the victim and told her to drive by him. She protested but he pointed a gun at her so she did a U-turn. After the shooting, he said they had to get out of town so they went to Spokane.

Couple can’t fool officers

with multiple false reports

A 44-year-old Bremerton woman was in Superior Court Feb. 7 facing two charges.

Bail was $100,000. She’s charged with attempting to elude (five years in prison, $10,000 fine maximum); and hit and run (one year, $5,000 fine).

Documents from the court say Bremerton police responded Jan. 16 at 4:04 p.m. to Sheridan Road and Wheaton Way. A vehicle was going 51 mph in a 25 mph zone. When the speeder reached 60 mph the pursuit stopped. Soon after there was a hit-and-run involving the same vehicle. A witness followed the suspect and reported the license plate.

A passenger bailed out of the vehicle. When police saw him, he took off. He later was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit, resisting arrest and making false statements. The vehicle was found at a woman’s house. She said a friend had the car at that time, but that friend was in the Kitsap jail when the crime occurred. On Jan. 16, the suspect sent a message to the man that was false, trying to throw officers off track. On Jan. 25, the two made false accusations in a phone call, again trying to fool police.

After getting a search warrant Feb. 4, deputies had enough evidence to arrest the woman.
