7th Kitsap County resident dies of COVID-19

Positive test rate over the last 30 days is nearly 6 percent

A seventh Kitsap County resident died Friday due to COVID-19 complications, the fourth in the past two weeks, according to the Kitsap Public Health District.

The most recent death was described by the health district as an “older adult male with underlying health conditions.”

On Monday, KPHD reported three new positive cases of COVID-19 since yesterday, bringing the countywide total of positive cases to 757 since March and a positive test rate of 3.6 percent.

A total of 70 cases are considered “active” by the district, meaning they are “confirmed and probable COVID cases … participating in daily monitoring.” Another 359 were categorized as “active contacts” or individuals determined to be close contacts of a lab-confirmed case and are participating in daily monitoring.

A total of seven people in Kitsap County have had COVID-19 associated deaths, four of which have been confirmed since late July, according to the health district. Additionally, the positive test rate over the last 30 days has increased to nearly 6 percent with the highest increase in positive cases coming from the 20-39 age range.

To date, 20,415 residents have tested negative for COVID-19, but the health district notes that negative test results have not been updated since Aug. 1 due to the state Department of Health experiencing issues with its reporting system.

In July, 422 infections were confirmed by the health district -more that month than all the other months combined. So far in August, 59 cases have been confirmed.

Of the 757 total cases, 23 have been reported on Bainbridge Island, 252 in Bremerton, 199 in Central Kitsap, 136 in North Kitsap and 147 in South Kitsap.

The age breakdown for confirmed positive cases per 100,000 in the past 30 days are as follows:

0 – 9: 100

10 – 19: 158

20 – 29: 369

30 – 39: 272

40 – 49: 172

50 – 59: 100

60 – 69: 68

70 – 79: 66

80 and older: 37
