The $4.3 million Wyatt Way construction project has hit a delay, but the contractor still plans to work through December and finish the summer of 2021.
The delay is caused by an ongoing water line issue. When new water lines are installed, they must be sanitized, flushed with clean water, and tested to ensure that no bacteria or other contamination is present. There has been an issue with one segment of the water line.
Paving and sidewalk work cannot be scheduled until that’s fixed.
The next couple of weeks the project team will be looking ahead to the road, sidewalk and stormwater work to be done at the Wyatt Way-Madison Avenue intersection. Once work west of that intersection is mostly completed this fall, the intersection work itself may be postponed until early spring.
The project location is on Wyatt Way between Lovell and Madison Avenues with a mini-roundabout at Wyatt Way and Madison.
The Wyatt Way Reconstruction and Safety Improvement project will improve safety for all modes of transportation by constructing a complete street with sidewalk and bike lanes; preserving vehicle level of service and improving non-motorized level of service and connections; and rehabilitating poor pavement conditions by constructing road surfacing with appropriate drainage.
Other improvements include paved shoulders, landscaping and lighting. Bicyclists will have the choice of entering the roundabout or using ramps to access the multi-use sidewalks and crosswalks. The roundabout should improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
