Kitsap County voters will see a crowded ballot for several races in the 2020 Primary Election.

Candidate Filing Week began Monday, and by Wednesday afternoon, five people had announced their candidacy for the District 2 position on the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners.

Incumbent Commissioner Charlotte Garrido, a Democrat, is seeking another term in the District 2 spot.

Four others — two Republicans, two Democrats — are also in the race.

They are: Marcus Carter of Burley (Republican); Stacey “Spencer” Smith of Port Orchard (Democrat); Oran R. Root of Port Orchard (Republican); and Paul Nuchims of Manchester (Democrat).

Rob Gelder, the Democratic Party incumbent in the District 1 seat on the Kitsap board of commissioners, is also running for another term.

There is a wide-open race for the Position 1 seat in the 23rd Legislative District in the state House of Representatives following Rep. Sherry Appleton’s decision to not seek another term. Appleton, a Poulsbo Democrat, has been in the House since 2004.

Four candidates have filed for the seat.

They are: April Ferguson of Suquamish (Republican); Tarra Simmons of Tracyton (Democrat); Leslie J. Daugs of Bremerton (Democrat); and Lou Krukar of Poulsbo (Democrat).

In the Position 2 seat in the 23rd District, incumbent Rep. Drew Hansen is running for another term. Hansen is a Democrat from Bainbridge Island.

Elaina Gonzales-Blanton, a Bremerton Republican, has also filed as a candidate.

Sen. Christine Rolfes, a Bainbridge Island Democrat, will seek another term in the Senate to represent the 23rd Legislative District.

Rolfes is being challenged by Pam Madden-Boyer, a Republican from Silverdale.
