G. Thompson Accepts Bid
George Thompson appealed for more citizen interest in town activities as he accepted his party’s bid for reelection to Winslow mayorality office Monday night.
At the caucus held in Town Hall by the Progressive Party, the only group to file for the March 13 election, Mr. Thompson and councilmen Bert Murley and William Riley were nominated to serve another full term as town officials.
Though there may be “write-ins” on the town ballot, the three Winslow men probably were assured of reelection. Under a new state law, councilmen will serve four-year rather than two-year terms in office.
Mr. Thompson urged residents to attend Town Council meetings while presiding officer of the caucus, Justice of the Peace Wilbur Nystrom, Winslow, emphasized the democratic principles involved in this country’s politics.
Also on the March 13 ballot will be the question, “Shall we change the name of Winslow?” Should the majority of voters answer in the affirmative, a name shall then be voted on at the next town election in two years or at a general election this November — the decision of when rests with Attorney General Don Eastvold.

Thief Returns Car To Ferry Lot
A car, “borrowed” from the Ferry Terminal parking area by a thief, was returned to the lot about a half-hour after peace officers started to look for it Friday night.
The machine, a 1947 coach owned by Lyman Black, Wing Point, apparently was taken with the idea that the thief would get it back before Mr. Black returned from Seattle, State Patrolman Frank Perry said. The thief was not known, he said.
Meanwhile, a 1946 machine owned by Ronald Larrabee, soldier attached to the Island Center Nike base, was found in Seattle January 11 after the soldier had reported it stolen January 1.

Spartan Teen Talk
By Maurene Long and Marilyn Vert
SEASON’S GREETINGS, Spartans! Horrors!! Report cards are due in just a few more days, and we thought we had better remind you so you can break the news to your parents. Also, the last of the semester tests are scheduled for tomorrow, so tonight it will be “Burn That Candle” for most of us.

As Oliver H. Perry once said, “We have met the enemy and they are ours!” Victory was ours last Friday night when the Spartans won their first league victory of the season in our gym. The crowd was cheering the team when the final buzzer sounded. We’re proud of you, team!

Some of the Ski Gulls went up to the mountains again last Saturday and we’re happy to report that there were no casualties this time.
***
The members of Torch Club seem to be quite busy lately. I wonder what it all means? At the rate they’re holding meetings, that dance they are planning should be something quite special.
***
We hope that everyone has completely recovered from the party at Marilyn Englund’s after the game Friday. I know that Monday morning came all too soon for us!

As darkness fell the Wing Point Club House was the scene of the Thespian initiation last Thursday. With a candle light setting, a one-act play and a reading were presented. Those initiated were Pat Winney, Lynda Petrie, Larry Lorentzen, Sheila Bradley, Jon Walters, and Carol Stright.

SPARTAN SALUTE: From the very first cheer to the singing of the Alma Mater, the cheer and song leaders are always at the games to help support our team. Their job is an important one and they work hard at it. We salute you, the song and cheer leaders, for the wonderful job you’re doing. Keep up the good work.
See you next week ….. ‘Bye!
