SAMMAMISH – The Issaquah Eagles overcame a first-half scare from the Spartans to escape with a 16-10 win in girls varsity lacrosse Friday at Skyline Community Fields.
Issaquah found ample offense early in the matchup and forged a 8-1 lead in the first half. But Bainbridge’s Paige Brigham caught fire and helped spur a five-minute, five-goal scoring spree to bring the Spartans within two, 8–6, by intermission.
The Eagles, the defending state girls lacrosse champs, regrouped in the second half and outscored Bainbridge 8-4.
The loss was the first of the season for Bainbridge, and dropped the Spartans’ record to (2-1-0).
Brigham finished with four goals and two assists.
Three other Spartans scored in the contest.
Mackenzie Chapman, Kiera Havill and Robin Hilderman contributed two goals each.
Hilderman also had five draw controls. Chapman added two ground balls and a draw, and teammate Sonia Olson had an assist.
Goalie Kelly Coffyn finished with five saves.
