SWERV hears hidden history

All women are invited to attend Savvy Women Exchanging Relevant Views to hear Zara Anishanslin, a professor from the University of Delaware, present the program, ”Hidden History of a Portrait of a Woman in Silk.”
Anishanslin will discuss approaching history through “material culture,” a way of telling stories of the past by studying objects, including how people make, trade and consume physical things.
She’ll focus on four identifiable people, including a weaver, a silk designer, a New England merchant’s wife and an artist who collectively led to a portrait of a woman in silk. These back stories tell us now much about the British Atlantic world of the 1700s.
SWERV meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Aug. 8 at Filipino American Hall, 7566 High School Road.
