BAINBRIDGE – Spartan hurler Malia Peato shut down West Seattle, allowing only five hits while striking out nine, as Bainbridge beat the Wildcats 5-1 and improved to 11-1 in girls varsity fastpitch softball last week.

Offensively the Spartans were sparked by home runs on back-to-back pitches by Maddie Loverich and Sara Colley, breaking up what had been a scoreless pitching duel in the bottom of the fourth inning.

West Seattle scored its only run in the top of the fifth on back-to-back doubles to cut the lead in half. Peato stranded the runner on second by striking out the next three runners.

Bainbridge answered with another pair of runs in the bottom half of the fifth. Olivia Wikstrom singled, stole second, advanced to third on a bunt single by Kensey Baker and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Morgan Lassoff. Baker stole second and scored on a Peato single.

Bainbridge added an insurance run in the sixth.

Abby Sullivan singled, then reached third on a sacrifice and a West Seattle error.

Tiana Rabang laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to bring Sullivan in for the final run.

Loverich was 1-for-2, with a home run, RBI and run.

Colley finished 1-for-3, with a home run, RBI and run.

Rabang went 1-for-2, with an RBI and a stolen base.
