Spartans shutout Wildcats 10-0

SEATTLE – The Bainbridge Spartans defeated the West Seattle Wildcats 10-0 in a run differential shortened, five-inning game Monday in Seattle.

The Spartans got on the board in the first inning complements off Ian Matthews’ two-out, two-run home run.

West Seattle struggled finding the strike zone, walking 12 batters and hitting two others, as the Spartans netted only seven hits on the day — with four of them for extra bases.

In addition to Matthews’ blast, the Spartans were supported with doubles by Ethan Schulte, Tad Grindeland and Ben McDonald.

James McMurray started on the mound for Bainbridge, striking out four and allowing no hits over the first four innings.

Matthews took the mound in the fifth and completed the no-hitter for the Spartan pitchers.

Bainbridge is now 12-1 in Metro League play and has clinched a bye in the first round of the upcoming playoffs.

The Spartans are competing with Lakeside and O’Dea for the No. 1 seed to start the postseason.

Rainier Beach came to Sands Field Wednesday, then Seattle Prep is on the island Friday to close out the regular season with a home game.
