We all have those days. You’re camped out on the couch in a mismatched comfort combo. You’re reading or watching TV or sluggishly ruminating. There’s no way you’re going to trek to Safeway or T&C this evening. So you crane your neck to see if you can make out the numbers on your refrigerator magnet.

You’re going to order a pizza. Not just any pizza, though. You want the kind that comes on a sourdough crust. The recipe’s been passed down for generations, which makes it sort of highbrow; you’re eating local history.

Unfortunately, your food fantasy comes to a halt as you remember something alarming: You’re out of beer, which, today, feels like a necessary liquid component. You sink lower into the folds of your couch, and, for a few moments, you’re not sure how to proceed. Maybe you can rally?

No need.

Will Grant to the rescue.

Last Friday, the island entrepreneur added beer and wine to the list of offerings That’s A Some Pizza will deliver. Alongside your favorite pie or salad or hoagie, you can now enjoy libations from Seattle Cider Company, Fremont Brewing, 14 Hands or Odin Brewing.

The way it works is easy: order online (thatsasome.com), over the phone (206-842-2292) or in person. Then pay with a credit card and make sure someone 21 or older is available to sign and have his or her ID checked when the goods are delivered, usually 45 minutes to an hour later. That’s A Some Pizza cannot deliver growlers.

It’s a service that’s been eight months in the making, Grant said, and involved a lot of red tape.

“I really didn’t think it was going to happen,” he added.

According to Grant, That’s A Some Pizza is the first restaurant in Washington state to legally deliver alcohol.

“In the past, they haven’t let it happen,” he explained. “I think [the fact that it happened now] had a lot to do with how they’ve let Amazon and UPS deliver alcohol. They probably figured why not let people who actually know how to handle alcohol deliver it.”

Grant said that his interest in alcohol delivery stemmed from his customers.

“Over the years, people have asked us about it because in other states it has been legal for a long, long time,” he said. “In Idaho, I think at least 10 years.”

Alcohol delivery is just one of several changes Grant has recently introduced to the 32-year-old restaurant. He’s also installed a new oven — it can cook 32 pizzas in 7 minutes — and a new point of sale system. Next month he’ll unveil a new menu and brand “that explains who we are a little bit more.”

That’s A Some Pizza, at 488 Winslow Way East, is open for dine-in, pick-up and delivery from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
