BALLARD – Bainbridge bested the Beavers in varsity boys swimming and diving late last week, as the Spartans emerged with a 143-37 Metro League win.

The Spartans won every race and also the diving event.

Bainbridge dominated in the 200-yard freestyle, the 200-yard individual medley, the 100-yard freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. In each of those five races, the Spartans claimed first, second and third places.

Two BHS swimmers also qualified for state.

Jude Wenker placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.19. The mark to compete in the state 3A swimming championships is 54.50.

And in the 200-yard freestyle, fellow Spartan Makai Ingalls also punched his ticket to the championships in Federal Way with a time of 1:50.16. The state time is 1:50.20.

Bainbridge also saw better-than-state times in three other events.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the fab four of Ingalls, Wenker, Sam Chapman and Kevin Houseman won the race in 1:43.45. (The state 3A time in the 200 medley relay is 1:44.50).

Garrett Waite won the 200-yard IM in 1:57.50, six seconds better than the state mark of 2:03.50.

And in the 500-yard freestyle, Waite also surpassed the state 3A mark of 4:59.00 by finishing first in 4:57.06.

The Spartans next head to Ingraham for an away meet on Friday, Jan. 27.
