To the editor:

If you wonder why anyone in her right mind would want to run for public office, then you need to meet Debra Lester.

Her genuine care and concern for the citizens of Kitsap County — our community, our neighbors — and her desire to build strong partnerships to manage our water resources is at the core of her desire to be a Kitsap Public Utility District Commissioner.

We have known Debra since 1998 as a fellow parent, as a community activist, and as our city council member. Debra can intelligently sift through piles of codes and policies to find workable, positive solutions. She has an amazing ability to rally people — from the cautious to the opinionated! —  around an idea and get things done, whether it be a public park or to reduce water utility rates. Debra understands how government works (and doesn’t). And she is tireless.

We think Debra Lester would make a great Kitsap Public Utility District Commissioner.
