Timeline takes shape for Bainbridge schools budget

Bainbridge school officials have set out a timeline for creating next year’s spending plan for the island’s public schools.

A preliminary copy of the Bainbridge Island School District budget for fiscal year 2016-2017 will be released July 10, with a public presentation scheduled for Thursday, July 28.

The budget hearing and adoption will be Thursday, Aug. 25.

The new budget is based on an average total enrollment of 3,769, the same number as this year.

Total increased revenue is estimated at $1.2 million, received from federal grants, the levy increase and K-12 enhancements due to the McCleary decision.

Expenditure changes will include an increase in staff salary and benefit expenses.

Materials, supplies and operating costs are expected to remain stable.
