The Bainbridge Island School District and Bainbridge Island Fire Department have collaborated to share a single project manager for their separate construction needs.
Charlie Demming will manage the completion of Blakely Elementary School, Bainbridge High School’s 100 Building and fire stations 21 and 22, as well as the expansion of Fire Station 23.
“This is an effective use of taxpayer money and an excellent example of efficient resource management,” said Tamela Van Winkle, the district’s director of capital projects. “Both BISD and BIFD are getting an experienced project manager during critical stages of construction without committing to two full-time employees.”
Demming will be employed by the school district and the fire department will reimburse the school district for Demming’s hours as needed.
“We are thrilled to be collaborating with the school district,” said Fire Chief Hank Teran. “It’s always great when agencies can work closely together for the good of the community, and this was a natural partnership.”
Prior to joining the Bainbridge district, Demming worked as project manager for Central Kitsap School District, Seattle School District and Portland Public Schools. He will begin work on Oct. 10.
