Interfaith forum planned at Bethany Lutheran Church

Published 2:24 pm Thursday, October 13, 2016

Two people sat down to tea, a Christian and a Muslim. In addition to sadness about the terrorist attacks in Paris, Lebanon and Mali, they discussed the responses of several U.S. political leaders to the horrific atrocities.

Inviting others to join them in spreading a message of unity, they launched “Love in a Time of Fear,” a forum that has drawn thousands of people to “question, learn and affirm that, even in this time of fear, God is calling us to recognize our neighbors and work for our mutual well-being.”

On Saturday, Oct. 22, the forum comes to Bethany Lutheran Church at 7968 Finch Road NE.

The event will begin at noon with lunch and guest speakers, including Terry Kyllo, a pastor serving both Lutheran and Episcopal churches in the Skagit Valley; Benjamin Shabazz, the imam of the W.D. Mohammed community; and Amanda Smith, a convert to Islam who teaches at the IMAN Center in Kirkland.
