Bainbridge blotter | Not hurt by a little squirt

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

FRIDAY, MAY 6

6:39 a.m. Police received reports of a man hitchhiking on Highway 305. When approached, the man said he was stressed out and upset because he had spent too much time at the casino and now wanted to return to Seattle.

The officer asked if he wanted a ride; he said yes.

The officer asked for his ID, but the man claimed to have none. When informed that police would need to do a check on him, so as to verify he was not wanted for any crimes, before giving him a ride, the man supplied a name and birthdate.

A quick check showed the man had a felony warrant out in California.

While waiting to confirm that extradition would be sought, the officer chatted with the man and proceeded to take possession of his backpack. The man admitted he had a knife when asked, and the officer then carefully took that from him as well. The officer was told extradition would be sought, and the hitchhiker was arrested.

3:21 p.m. A mysterious crashing sound was reported as having come from Madison Avenue near Ihland Way. Police found skid marks and a good amount of debris on the roadway.
