Ferry service to Bainbridge Island was restored to full capacity Wednesday night after sailings from Seattle were stalled by a report of a man overboard from the ferry M/V Puyallup.

The Puyallup went back into service with the 7:10 p.m. sailing from Bainbridge.

The vessel stopped mid-sailing from Seattle on the 4:40 p.m. run after someone aboard reported a man overboard about 20 minutes into the sailing.

Coast Guard crews from Seattle and beyond were called to the waters between Bainbridge and Seattle; a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Seattle, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles, the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Sea Lion (an 87-foot Coastal Patrol Boat homeported in Port Angeles), and units from the Bainbridge police and fire departments.

Riders aboard the Puyallup were told just after 6 p.m. that the object seen in the water was likely a sea mammal.
