To the editor:
In last week’s Review, a story about the Eagle Harbor sewage spill included a photo and caption about rowing in the harbor during a sewage spill.
For the record, all of our rowers — masters and juniors — were always outside of the closure area. Our coaches and leadership were aware of the spill, complied with the recommendations of the Kitsap Public Health District, and made sure our rowers were outside that of that exclusion zone at all times. The sign in the photo prohibits shellfish harvesting and is always there. There was no beach closure sign for the sewage spill; if there had been, we would not have taken boats and rowers out.
The health and safety of our rowers is of utmost concern to our leadership and coaches. We communicate regularly with Harbormaster Tami Allen, the Harbor Commission, the Kitsap Public Health District, and the city of Bainbridge Island to ensure the safest conditions for all of our rowers in Eagle Harbor.
