Guest lecturer Professor Henny Lamars of the Astronomical Institute, University of Amsterdam and Utrecht. University will discuss the search for exoplanets at Lecture “Exoplanets – Looking for Other Earths” at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14 at Ritchie Observatory.

Could there be life somewhere in the universe or are we the only ones? To find the answer, astronomers are looking for planets around other stars: exoplanets. The problem is that planets are a million times fainter than the star why they orbit and very they are close to the star; their light is completely overwhelmed by the star light.

If the sky is clear, astronomers will be on hand with telescopes for public solar viewing prior and star-gazing afterward.

The lecture is free to members of the Battle Point Astronomical Association; $2 donation suggested for nonmembers, $5 for families.
