Signed, sealed and delivered — the city of Bainbridge Island received an approved employment contract from its next police chief in the mail Friday afternoon.
Matthew Hamner, formerly a lieutenant with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, is Bainbridge Island’s new police chief. He was picked from a field of more than 50 applicants by City Manager Doug Schulze to be the city’s newest police chief.
Hamner will take over the department last led by chief Jon Fehlman, who resigned in September.
Hamner signed off on the proposed five-year contract with the city on April 25.
His start date is expected to be June 10. He will be paid an annual salary of $144,192 to start, plus benefits.
