Officials get thanks for thoughtful work | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

This is a heartfelt letter of appreciation for the Bainbridge Island police and fire departments for assistance beyond the call of duty.

On Tuesday, Nov. 17, Bainbridge Island Children’s Center suffered during the windstorm because a tree fell across Cave Avenue along with downed live wires. We had no power and it was approaching dusk.

We literally were stuck without any way to get our cars down the street or for parents to get their children. Until a knock on the door that provided us with heroes!

A fireman and a police officer came and escorted us down a safe path for our staff and preschoolers. We ended at the police station, welcomed with SpongeBob, snacks, and stuffed animals for the kids to take home. They were sincerely helpful, loving and gracious as we waited for anxious parents to re-unite with their children.

Thank you for making a treacherous event into something never to be forgotten. We are touched by your service.
