City Manager Doug Schulze announced Friday that Barry Loveless has accepted an offer of employment to become the new public works director for the city of Bainbridge Island.
“It is exciting to bring someone with Barry’s experience, background and familiarity with the region on board,” Schulze said.
Loveless has served since 2008 as the public works director for the city of Poulsbo.
“(Bainbridge Island’s) a bigger city, a lot of things are going on that are interesting and a lot of projects for the future,” Loveless said. “I look forward to working in a council-manager form of government.”
Prior to his position with Poulsbo, he was senior program manager for Kitsap County Public Works. He served in various public works/engineering capacities for the Navy for more than 20 years, including from 2003-2005 as regional public works program director for Navy Region Northwest.
Loveless is a licensed professional engineer and holds a master’s degree in construction management from Georgia Tech University.
Bainbridge officials said the new hire has many years of experience in all municipal public works and engineering functions including managing four utilities (water, sewer, stormwater and solid waste), and operations and maintenance of streets, parks, trails and buildings.
“I think it’s a good opportunity, and I’m looking forward to the challenges,” Loveless said.
