The Bainbridge Island School District will hold a Bus Driver Job Fair from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 4 at the district’s transportation facility, located at 9451 NE New Brooklyn Ave.
District officials said being a school bus driver can be an ideal job for retirees, college students, people looking for extra income, and those who want to be home when their children are off for holidays and school vacations. The district offers free full comprehensive training and will pay part of fees and licensing costs for new drivers.
Interested? Bring along a cover letter, resume and three letters of reference. The district will accept applications and conduct interviews during the fair.
The district pays $17.71 per hour upon receipt of a Commercial Driver’s License. Applications are available at www.bisd303.org/employment/classified-substitutes/substitute.
“The district is in urgent need of several additional substitute drivers,” said Transportation Supervisor Rebecca Sonsalla. “We have very flexible hours for substitute drivers. Substitute drivers can choose to work mornings, afternoons, or both on days you choose.
“School bus drivers are needed nationwide but it is more difficult to recruit in smaller locations. We hope our job fair will attract many who have not considered bus driving as a source of income.”
