Boys gymnastics
The boys club team competed in its first meet of the season at Cascade Elite Gymnastics in Mountlake Terrace on Saturday. The level-five team consisting of Cole Lewis, Henry Brown, Duncan Wallace and Eric Powell took second place in the team awards.
Lewis placed second in the all-around with a score of 83.4, with first-place finishes on floor and rings, second place on parallel bars and third on pommel horse.
Brown placed third in the all-around with a score of 83.200 with a first-place finish on pommel horse, and placing third on parallel bars, high bar and rings.
Wallace took 12th in the all-around with sixth place on high bar, while Powell placed first in the 12-and-up division with a score of 79.3 in the all-around.
Nathaniel Opalski, a level-seven gymnast, finished first on rings, and earned three second-place finishes on floor, pommel horse and parallel bars and a third place on high bar, in addition to placing second overall. Bryan Peterson, a level-nine gymnast, also finished first in his division.
Swimming
The Spartans recorded their ninth state qualifying time on the way to a victory over Chief Sealth and West Seattle Friday.
David Ortyn qualified for state in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of two minutes and five seconds. Ortyn, a senior, has also qualified for the 100-yard backstroke, the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly.
Bainbridge defeated Chief Sealth 81-12 and West Seattle 85-4.
The Spartans will take on O’Dea in their next meet at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 8.
Girls basketball
The Spartans fell to No. 1 Holy Names 68-21 Friday.
Bainbridge hosts Kent-Meridian at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday before taking a few days off then traveling to Port Angeles Dec. 29.
Wrestling
O’Dea defeated Bainbridge 47-19 Thursday.
Junior captains Corey Touchette and Karl Hunt were the only Spartans to win by decision. Touchette – wrestling at 171 – defeated Geoff Carlin 13-7, while Hunt – competing at 215 – bested Nico Fortes 11-1.
The Spartans forfeited the 103-pound weight class, while O’Dea forfeited the 145 and 152 weight classes.
Bainbridge travels to Centralia for a tournament Saturday.
