Spending more, getting less health coverage | Letters | July 3

I learned recently that “for profit” primary care is a felony in most of the industrialized world. If you think about it, a “for profit” company is mandated by law to make a profit as its first objective. A “not for profit company” is mandated to fulfill its mission.

I would much rather deal with a bureaucrat who makes $60,000 a year whether or not my claim is paid, than an insurance representative whose job it is to figure out a way to deny my claim, making every effort to maximize corporate profitability.

I believe “for profit” secondary coverage is a great idea. This would allow people to have whatever additional coverage they can afford, without perpetuating a system where so many millions of people go without coverage at all.

It is time for the American people to realize that we as a country are spending twice as much per capita and getting far to little in return, while the CEO’s are walking away with billions…every dollar in their pockets comes from denying someone who has paid for coverage they thought they had paid for.
