Spacecraft, a performance group dedicated to seeking unique and noteworthy musicians and entertainers and bringing them to Bainbridge Island, has gained the attention of KEXP, 90.3-FM, the renowned Seattle radio station specializing in alternative and indie rock. Two upcoming Spacecraft shows have been officially recommended by Audioasis, KEXP’s long-running Northwest music program, hosted by DJ Sharlese.
Both shows are held at Rolling Bay Hall.
“KEXP plays many of the artists who have performed for Spacecraft audiences,” said Spacecraft co-founder and artistic director Morgan Terry. “It’s an honor to have KEXP checking us out and wanting to be involved in our shows. We’re stoked to have them representing.”
The first featured show is Brothers From Another at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7.
Two MCs and one DJ make up the Seattle-based hip-hop trio, known for their feel good sound and dynamic performances. The group has released six EPs and shared the stage with some of the biggest names in hip-hop — including Kendrick Lamar and Macklemore — and have toured with Seattle-based artists Sol and Blue Scholars.
Opening the show is Travis Thompson, a 19-year-old spoken word artist and rapper from Seattle.
The second show to gain KEXP’s nod is Gifted Gab at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13.
When she was 9, “Gabby” Kadushin used to walk from Montlake Elementary School to her Central District home and write raps about things going on around her.
Her influences are diverse: from the church choir to Michael Jackson, Tupac to MC Lyte.
In May of 2014 she released her first full length project, “Girl Rap,” which soon found a national audience.
Advance tickets for both shows are available for $10 at www.brownpapertickets.com, and will be sold for $12 at the door.
