The City Council has approved a second change order of $31,150 to cover additional costs necessary to complete the Strawberry Plant Park project.

The funds are being provided by the Elliot Bay Trustee Council, which approved an additional $181,539 last November to cover the unexpected costs associated with the project’s change order work.

The project was originally contracted for $848,544, but went over budget when the city ran into complications at the Eagle Harbor site.

The first change order was approved on Dec. 8, for $120,850. The second change order is for removal of the remaining on-site soils. The change increases the contract amount by 14.4 percent to $991,004.

Community Develop-ment Administrator Chris Wierzbicki said the city believes it will have a small amount of additional funding left over to begin the upland meadow work.
