The suspect in an early December burglary just south of the Clearwater Casino was arrested late last week by local police after he was caught running from an apartment building on High School Road.

Hayden David Armstrong-Nunes, 21, was apprehended around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17 after Bainbridge police and deputies from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office found him at the Rhododendron Apartments.

Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson reported that Armstrong-Nunes tried to flee but was taken into custody after a physical confrontation with officers.

Police also arrested Armstrong-Nunes’ girlfriend, identified as Ruthanne Villarreal, 24.

She was taken into custody inside a residence at the Rhododendron Apartments and booked into Kitsap County Jail on outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrants and on a probable-cause arrest charge of rendering criminal assistance.

Armstrong-Nunes is suspected of burglarizing a home on NE Laura Loop around 10 a.m. on Dec. 5.

The sheriff’s office said Armstrong-Nunes broke into the house and fought with the homeowner when he was discovered, but the intruder received a serious hand injury from what police said was a large knife or sword, before he ran off. Several firearms were later found missing from the home.

Police said Armstrong-Nunes went to a neighboring house to look for help, but left before sheriff deputies got to the scene. Armstrong-Nunes was last seen at the Longhouse Texaco on Highway 305 on the day of the burglary, and was given a ride to Poulsbo by a customer who was getting gas at the convenience store.

The sheriff’s department said Armstrong-Nunes and his girlfriend have been “on the move” since the Dec. 5 break-in.

Authorities said Armstrong-Nunes was taken to the emergency room at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton after he was taken into custody due to concerns that he had ingested drugs.

After he was cleared by doctors, he was taken to the Kitsap County Jail and booked on an arrest warrant for first-degree burglary and theft of a firearm. Bail was set at $250,000.

Armstrong-Nunes is also being held on a no-bail felony arrest warrant issued by the state Department of Corrections for escape from community custody, Wilson reported.

Bail for Villarreal has been set at $26,500.
